About CreativelyDrew

I am creating this site for my son Drew. I want to give him a place to showcase his artwork and the things he loves to do. If we make a few friends in the process, that’s even better. The idea of this site started when Drew first fell in love with painting. I have always wanted to paint and although I never painted before, I was sure that I’d have a talent for it. Since I am always trying to find things for Drew to get him out, I figured this might be something fun. I scheduled an evening at “Painting with a Twist” and we had a blast. He soon had me going 3 times a week and I finally decided that it would be much cheaper to start doing it from home so I bought some painting supplies and we started having painting dates at the house.

I’m not nearly as talented as I thought I would be but I love the time we spend together and I love how excited Drew has been with it. I think what I love most is how he has taken charge of this activity. Drew finds an inspiration, it can be anywhere, walking through a museum, looking at a photo of a friend’s pet, etc… but once he has it, he will send me the photo. It’s not rare for me to get a dozen photos in a week. On the night of painting, I will do a rough outline of the photo we choose to help him with the structure and then the rest is all him. He picks the colors and he does his own thing. He will NOT even listen to my suggestions. His paintings often have little imperfections but the color and creativity are always so unique to Drew that I have a hard time selling any of his pieces.

In the last 4 years, Drew’s interests have grown so much even beyond painting. We are lucky to have a very supportive family. My boyfriend and my daughter are very tolerant of our shenanigans so we are regularly off doing something fun but my real driver in creating this site was the changes that I started seeing in Drew. He began engaging with people. Where he once would sit quietly and not make eye contact, he began initiating conversations to show his artwork or talk about something fun we did. It dawned on me that we need a place to tie it all together and Creatively Drew was born.

Drew's Interests

Painting

Drew began painting in 2020 and fell in love with the creativity and the responses he was getting from those that see his paintings.

Birds

Drew adopted his first bird about 5 years ago. We were so lucky to get suck a talented bird named Ziggy and since then we have added Grace and Zoe.

Ghost Hunting

Drew's interest in ghost hunting began when he was a child. He would watch ghost hunting with his grandfather so one day I took him to a local ghost hunt. When he started seeing all of the equipment, he was hooked so we've been doing it every since. Yes, I used to get scared!!

Dallas Cowboys

Drew was the football manager at his high school and developed a true love for football. I grew up as a Chicago Bears fan and as a single mother, I still was very into football so we would watch every game. He is a die hard Cowboys fan so we agreed to root for each other's team (except when they plan each other, then we are rivals). When the Cowboys have been there worst, Drew still believes in them so I believe in them too! Go Cowboys and Bears!!

Food

Drew is a foodie! He fits right into this family. He loves to try new things, will eat the hottest wings he can find, and dessert is hard to pass up. He loves sushi and will eat most of it. He does have his limits. He is always up for trying someplace new with me./

Exercise

Okay so I'm lying here, this is not an interest of Drew however I have convinced him that if he wants to be a foodie, he has to learn to love exercise. He has gotten the bug and does the treadmill several times a week, we did a 5k walk and are starting to think about other ones. He loved the walk, he loved raising money for a good cause so maybe I'm onto something.
